Susan Rissman has been one of the principal female vocalists in Colorado Springs for more than 20 years. She’s toured the country as primary vocalist for “Tiny Barge and the Big Chill” numerous times and has played virtually every major (and minor) venue on the Colorado Springs music scene . She is currently the featured voice on Thursday nights at Ricos with John Wise and Tim Zahn. Her voice is one part ripping blues diva, one part broken princess, one part folk mistress and one part “Scat”, Queen of Springs Funk. Trying her hand at songwriting for the first time, she is writer or co-writer on 3 songs on the disc “Driving” and creative visionary on numerous others. Fans in Colorado Springs have waited many years for Susan’s voice to be featured on a disc. “Driving” gives her a place on the recorded road that she has so long deserved.

The Aspen Allstars are Aspen’s best musicians, in 4, 5, 6 & 7-piece configurations.

The Passion Behind the Music

Since the day I started singing, music has been a huge source of joy, exploration, and self-discovery. In recent it’s become a driving force in my life in my quest to meet people on the deepest levels. The ability to witness and connect with people in the most emotional and powerful moments of their lives has given me a soulful purpose. I believe I have found how I am meant to serve in this life. It resulted from a truly pivotal moment in which a gentleman shared with me how deeply touched he was by the music I had sung at his son’s memorial service. This man had lost three members of his immediate family to a very rare genetic disorder. He said, “I’ll never really have closure, Susan, but I’ve never felt more at peace than I did when you sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” I’ll never forget what he said, and I’ll always be grateful for it. It’s my heart’s desire to give that experience to everyone I sing for.
